NBA Free Throws vs Baskets

The National Basketball Association, or the NBA is the main professional league in North America. It was founded in June 6th, 1946 and in 1949, when it merged with the National Basketball League (NBL), it became the premier location for fans to watch the sport.

The data set I used focused on seasonal stats from the 1950s to 2017.

My project was to determine whether or not if there is a strong correlation between a players Free Throw % and their total amount of Field Goals or total baskets they’ve made. Since I was calculating Free Throw% I found my baseline predictions to be 74%. Using my Linear Regression Model I was not able to beat my baseline, with my RMSE score being slightly higher than 10% of my FT% mean. I had an accuracy score of 12%

If I were to do this again, I would of done mutlti-variable linear regression. It is possible that if I had utilized more variables that my accuracy score would of been much better and it would of been much more fortuitous.
