Shopping UK v1.90

Add your own categories

Shopping UK will automatically categorise your list into aisles. This makes it easy to find things in the supermarket. The app has a built-in list of over 20,000 items, and it does a pretty good job of placing each one in the right category.

But, sometimes, the standard categories are not enough and you need a new one. Perhaps, like me, your son has an intolerance to dairy and requires “Free From” products from a special aisle, or maybe you always buy steaks and joints from the local butcher and you’d like to separate these in your list. In the latest version of the app, you now can.

As before, to change an item’s category, press the ⓘ button. Choose from one of the built-in categories — which now have icons to help you find the right one — or add your own¹ by pressing “New Category…”:

Custom categories can now be added

Enter a name for the new category and choose a colour. There are 24 colour schemes to choose from:

Add a category, enter its name, and choose a colour

As always, the category in which you place an item will be remembered, and this will be used to automatically arrange your next list.

If you’d like to change your category’s name or colour, or remove a category you’ve added, long-press (i.e. press and hold) on the category’s cell².

I hope you find the new custom category feature useful. I’d love to hear from you if you have any suggestions for making it better, or any feedback at all on how you use the Shopping UK app.
