2.5 Texts

Before this lesson I thought that texts in a religious sense were only holy books that were deemed scared. My idea of texts stemmed from my background and from that I thought texts could only be something equivalent to the bible. In this lesson I believe I will be learning about texts in a sense that it will include all religions and not Protestant views.

What surprised me most about this lesson is that texts can be literally anything from an oral story to a printed work. This is to include all religions because not all religions have sacred texts like the bible. It is also to show how things like songs and paintings can be considered texts.

Texts are anything that can be regarding its content rather than its physical form. From holy book, to paintings, to songs, and performances these can all be regarded as texts in a religious sense based on its content. I understand now that all religions have some sort of content that is highly regarded and that a written text doesn't make a religion more or less legitimate than another.
