How To Finish What You Start

In my post yesterday I talked about how we tend to be great at planning things, but not so good at doing the things we had planned.

“Simple? you say. There is nothing simple about dreaming, and planning, and following through with a plan!” If that is how you view this process that is exactly how it will be for you — hard, not enjoyable, and, ultimately, not worth it.

Yes, you do have them. They may have been buried deep and forgotten a long time ago, but you do have them. Spend some time rediscovering them.

Think about them, pray about them, and meditate for awhile on what really excites you. You can figure out what your dreams are.

You see, so many of us have just been getting through life for so long that we don’t think it is okay to dream. You don’t need my permission (or anyone else’s permission either,) but just in case you are struggling with thinking dreaming is okay, let me tell you it is more than okay.

Now, how to do that…

As you go through your everyday existence, pay attention to what catches your eye? What piques your curiosity? What angers you? Excites you? Saddens you? Makes you all warm and fuzzy inside? Pay attention to these clues.

And as you discover these clues, write them down, make a note on your phone, record them somewhere where you can find them when you are ready for them. And keep searching for more clues every day of your life. You can never have too many dreams. And they can never be too big or too small.

Make a plan to do something to get you closer to at least one of your dreams today. Don’t put it off any longer.

You may not climb Mount Everest tomorrow, but you can probably take a walk around the block today. You have to start somewhere.

Even if it takes you 5, 10, or even more years, if you just keep going in the direction of your dreams, you will achieve them. And these successes will fuel your passion to keep dreaming.

So, what does all this have to do with finishing what we start? I believe you have already started pursuing some of your dreams. I believe they are hiding in those boxes, and piles, and shelves, and on your computer.
