The one thing that drives us to learn and adapt in life, is information. Information has become so accessible that even babies have a ability to get their hands on it. With such a vast amount available, what is the most useful to us? What will help us in our daily lives to not only push us into new ways of thinking, but will also give us the tools for which we craft our livelihood? One things for sure, our parents are the foundation on which we are built. Our parents play a huge role in our development, physically and mentally. Does that development differ in homes where one or both parents didn’t have access to proper development themselves? As time goes on, students and adults alike are gaining better tools and easier access of target information. But, why is this important? For decades, a quality education has been limited to the quantity of your bank account. This means MILLIONS of people did not get what they deserved as a human. A quality education. What ever the case may be, we have been moving forward in a very innovative way. Which has allowed for people with less than substantial income (including myself) to have DIRECT access to aid in their educational journey. Scholarships and grants have made it almost to easy to make a quality education affordable. With Many different options to explore, Students are able to exploit options catered to their specific needs. Wether graphic design or even medical, you have options that can help you succeed. On the other hand, what if these options still don’t work for you? This is why we are here now. In my opinion, institutions should have policies in place for high need students. For example, a foster care child should be able to be afforded a quality education even if they don’t have parents or means to pay. What ever the case may be, I think people should be granted access as a part time student on a probation like period. If student completes a certain credit hr, or certain GPA, or have set terms in place to govern case. This may not work for every student, but there could be an application process separate from the main app that the institution allows. Maybe a certain number a students for semester to keep cost low. Even offer used book rentals at no cost if student completes required objectives set for that semester. Online classes are the most convenient way to gain access. What if colleges offered free online courses, or even online classes at a discounted rate? This would provide students unable to be on a campus the ability to have it at their fingertips. Technology has made it nearly impossible not to have access to an education. You can literally find anything you need or want to just by searching it on google. What if colleges introduced “knowledge based” extensions to there websites? My idea is, using the majors already provided by institution, have accessible generated info which non-students could refer to for simple knowledge. It might be exactly the piece of information needed in any situation. Colleges could also provide “stimulus” to aid students. Apart form FASFA and other loans, the selected institution could cover expenses up to a certain amount or the full amount, depending on student situation. I feel education should be accessed for free, but until that happens, we have to try diligently to find ways to provide ALL people regardless of background with a quality education.
