Is the law sin?

In the book of Romans, Paul is talking about how God delivers us from the law. He gives the analogy of a marriage. In a marriage contract, when someone dies the other party is free to remarry again…

Market Survey:

After the past presentation day, I narrowed down my ten best ideas to three final choices as decided by my classmates votes as well as my own intuition. The three ideas that I settled on are:

To gauge the market landscape and consumer insight I created an online survey that measured people’s preference of the three products, likeliness to purchase their selected product as well as their willingness to pay for any of the products. 18 participants took the survey — the data gathered is as follows;

When asked which product they would be most likely to purchase, one person (5.6%) chose the Velcro/Modular Trunk Organizer, seven people (38.9%) chose the Center Console Organizer —

When asked if they were to come across the product they chose in Q1 how likely they would be to purchase it, three people(16.7%) said it was highly unlikely, ten people (55.6%) said it was somewhat likely and five people (27.8%) said it was highly likely —

When asked what price participants would be willing to pay for each individual product the results were;

Center Console Organizer

In-Between Seat Catcher/Organizer

Velcro/Modular Trunk Organizer

Benchmarking and Patents:

Center Console Organizer —

This 2x2 indicates that the market potential for this concept is for a product that is customizable but has fewer compartments than those shown at the top of the table.

The most relevant patent for this concept can be found at;

This patent is slightly different than what I conceptualized as this product would sit atop the console whereas mine would be inside it

In-Between Seat Catcher/Organizer —

This 2x2 indicates that the market potential for this concept is for a product that is both aesthetically pleasing while still being affordable/low-end.

The most relevant patent for this concept can be found at;

This patent differs from the product I have envisioned in that with this product devices are still hard to retrieve while driving because it sits lower than the seat.

Velcro/Modular Trunk Organizer —

This 2x2 indicates that the market potential for this concept is for a product that is both expensive/high-end as well as rearrangeable.

The most relevant patent for this concept can be found at;

This patent varies from the product I have envisioned in that with this product the dimensions of the stowing spaces themselves cant be changed, just their orientation in relation to each other.

Feasibility Concerns:

Center Console Organizer —

My biggest concern with this product is being able to form a design that fits all cars without compromising functionality. Center consoles differ in size, shape, and contents so it would be hard to make a universal solution.

In-Between Seat Catcher/Organizer —

This products success would depend on being able to produce an attractive and functional product that is also inexpensive. Finding materials and manufacturing process that fit these constraints may be difficult.

Velcro/Modular Trunk Organizer —

This product is likely my least feasible idea because, like the console organizer, trunks vary in size and shape. Additionally, many people transport delicate or expensive objects that would rely on the products structural integrity which may be hard to achieve when trying to design a product that works for all cars and consumer demographics.

Sketch Model + Feedback:

This is the sketch model that I came up with. It is made out of laser cut cardboard to simulate some type of plastic and a plastic bag to simulate a removable mesh pouch. I gave the prototype to my Mom to have in her car to use during her commute.

Some of the feedback they gave she included:

The bag is a pain to re-position in the device.

The device falls out of the car when you open the door if you forget about it.

It is too narrow of an opening.

Timeline:

11/02: Narrow down three best ideas from ten original ideas.

11/03–11/05: Make 2x2 benchmarks for each of the three ideas.

11/05: Evaluate pros and cons of all ideas and decide on one. Begin gathering materials for sketch model.

11/06: Create Pugh chart.

11/07:Assemble sketch model.

11/08:Post all material on blog.
