In Louisiana only 32% of the population is black but 70% of the deaths in Louisiana from the corona virus have been black, this is just one example of how the corona virus is affecting different communities differently. Different communities across the U.S. are having different experiences during the corona virus right now. Black and Latino people are having a harder time than other people during the corona virus.
There have been more corona virus cases and deaths for Black and Latino people than any other race’s. For example as I mentioned in the introduction, in Louisiana only 32% of the population is Black but 70% of the deaths in Louisiana from the corona virus have been Black people. Adding to this, in Michigan and Illinois, Latino people make up only 14%-15% of the population, yet they make up 40% of the deaths from the corona virus. Lastly in Wisconsin less than 10% of the population there is Black, yet they make up an astounding 80% of the corona virus deaths. These all are factual proof that there is less testing and less care and concern for Black, Latino, and probably all people of color.
There has been more unemployment, and less money and services for Black and Latino people. Firstly Latino people in the U.S. are making 71%-74% of what white people are making during the corona virus. Additionally some recent studies show that Latino people in the U.S. spend 47% of what white people spend on liquids during the corona virus. In an interview with Shirley, a Latino worker affected by the corona virus, she said that she had been laid off from her job a few weeks ago and her company was slow to hand out benefits to her and other co-workers who were fired as well. Evilin is a single mother, who also lost her job and after just working there for 3 days, she is worried for herself and everyone during these times
So overall we can conclude that the corona virus pandemic has shown some of the inner racism in our society and how our society structured to support white people over everyone else. So that even though we can’t change the whole government, we can help support those people who need help, whatever ways possible, and we can help others hear their voice.
But look at Uber or Airbnb. Our life is easier thanks to those we just met. Besides, it’s the ones we trust that can hurt us the most. Strangers can never ‘betray’ us. I’ve trusted strangers on the…
